Our Story

Our Story

From a burden for the overlooked to a church with open hearts and open doors.

Original Story

Our Story

Our story begins when Pastor Tommy was only 15 years old. In 2002, Tommy’s parents, Pastor Paul and Patty Palmer, visited Atlanta, Georgia on a family trip. During their visit, they encountered a homeless man sleeping on the steps of a locked church.

When they knocked on the door, they discovered the staff was inside attending to church business while showing little interest in the man outside. In that moment, the burden that would become Atlanta Dream Center Church was born.

The Palmers, along with nine of their eleven children, left a comfortable life in California and moved across the country to establish a church in the center of one of Atlanta’s most broken communities. Before Sunday services were established, the church began reaching neighborhoods through simple acts of service like mowing lawns and serving local residents. That outreach became known as Adopt-a-Block.

Over time, the church became known as a place with open arms and open doors. The homeless were welcomed, the neglected were loved, and the outcast found a home. As the church grew, people from many different walks of life worshiped and served together.

Today, as the church focuses on worship, fellowship, discipleship, and outreach, it remains committed to seeing the restoration of broken lives and entire communities.

  • Acts 1:4, 8
  • Acts 8:12–17
